What Is Screw Press Volute

JX Filtration Screw Press

A screw press volute is a component of a screw press machine used in various industrial processes, particularly in the field of wastewater treatment and sludge dewatering. The volute is a spiral-shaped casing or housing that encloses the screw or auger mechanism inside the screw press.

In a screw press volute, the sludge or wastewater is fed into the casing, and as the screw rotates, it conveys the material along the length of the volute. The spiral shape of the volute gradually reduces the volume of the space, increasing the pressure on the sludge or wastewater as it moves towards the outlet.

As the pressure increases, water is forced out through small openings or perforations in the casing, while the solids are compacted and dewatered. This process allows for efficient separation of liquid and solid components, resulting in dewatered sludge and clarified water.

Screw press volutes are often designed with variable pitch or diameter along the length of the casing to optimize the dewatering process and achieve the desired level of solids concentration in the discharged sludge. They are essential components in screw press machines, contributing to their effectiveness in sludge dewatering applications.
